Travel and Visa
Get to CUHK / Hyatt Regency hotel:
Via Hong Kong International Airport:
Attendees flying into Hong Kong International Airport will need to pass through immigration, collect luggage and then pass through customs. There are several options to travel from the Main Hall of the Terminal.
- Taxi: The easiest way to travel, taxis are readily available outside of the terminal. Please print this page for the driver as many only speak Mandarin or Cantonese.
- Airport Express/MTR: Get off at MTR University Station.
Via Lo Wu/Lok Ma Chau or Southbound Direct Train:
Get off at the MTR University Station, it is about 5 minutes walking distance to the conference venue. The southbound direct train will go direct to the Hung Hom Station without stop. You have to take MTR train (East Rail Line) to the University Station.
Via High Speed Rail:
If you come to Hong Kong by High Speed Rail and stop in Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, here is the route to the MTR University Station/Hyatt Regency hotel by MTR: (1) Go to Austin Station via overhead bridge/pedestrian tunnel; (2) get on train at Austin Station (Platform 2) towards Wu Kai Sha (Tuen Ma Line), then (3) interchange at Hung Hom Station (Platform 1) towards Lo Wu/Lok Ma Chau (East Rail Line) and get off at University Station.
Local Transportation:
- It is convenient and efficient to go downtown by MTR (train and subway).
- Payment: Octopus card (widely accepted, can be purchased at the airport and at the customer service center of most MTR stations)
Visa Information:
Visitors to Hong Kong must hold a valid passport. Passports should be valid for at least six months after your planned departure date from Hong Kong. Nationals of most countries are not required to obtain visas for periods varying from 7 days to 180 days, depending on nationality. Please refer to Hong Kong SAR Immigration Department Home Page for visa requirements for the foreign countries/territories (scroll down to Item. 12 in Part II).
Persons who need a visa or entry permit for visit should obtain the appropriate visa or entry permit before travelling to the HKSAR. You may apply for the appropriate visa or entry permit from the nearest Chinese diplomatic and consular mission.
Currencies and Exchange
The local currency is the Hong Kong dollar. The Hong Kong dollar is pegged to the US dollar at a rate of approximately US$1 to HK$7.8. Banks generally offer better exchange rates, most banks levy a commission for each transaction on non-account holders. The Octopus card is an extremely convenient and widely accepted form of payment in Hong Kong. You can purchase a card and add value at the airport and at the customer service center of most MTR stations.
Weather in Hong Kong
The season in June is summer. Weather is hot and humid with occasional showers and thunderstorms, particularly during the mornings. Afternoon temperatures often exceed 30 degree Celsius whereas at night, temperatures generally remain around 25 Degree Celsius with high humidity. Electricity and Voltage
The standard electrical voltage in Hong Kong is 220 volts AC, 50Hz. Most hotel bathrooms also have outlets for 100 volts, but if not, you will need a transformer for any appliance or electrical equipment. The majority of electrical outlets in Hong Kong take a three-pronged UK-style plug.
